What is the TCS NYC Marathon?
Every November, New York City bursts at the seams as thousands of runners and millions of spectators gather for one of the world’s most iconic running events: the TCS NYC Marathon. Stretching across all five boroughs, the course brings the city to life with electric energy, incredible crowds, and unforgettable moments. At the heart of the action, Hudson Yards acts as an ideal hub for runners picking up race materials nearby at the Javits Center, spectators heading to key vantage points, and anyone celebrating post-race achievements. This legendary event began in 1970 as a race through Central Park and expanded in 1976 to include all five boroughs, making 2026 the 50th anniversary of the expansion.
The starting signal fires on November 1, 2026. Get ready for a weekend of fun and excitement with our must-know guide and insider tips on how to make the most of marathon weekend.
Where do runners pick up their race kit?
Before the race, runners, supporters, and run enthusiasts should visit Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, known simply as the Javits Center, for the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance. At the exposition, runners can pick up their race materials and check out a variety of vendors. Don’t forget:
- Runners must select their pickup window on their NYRR dashboard.
- Runners must pick up their own race materials in person; no proxies.
- Runners must have a photo ID and their confirmation form.
- The expo is expected to be the busiest on Thursday from 10 am to 12 pm, and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. Plan accordingly.
While in the area, visit The Shops and check out athletic stores for fun, or to pick up gear you might have forgotten. Rhone, located on level 2, was developed with mental and physical fitness in mind. It's running collection is the perfect place to grab a pair of shorts or a top. Lululemon, on level 3, has crucial accessories, like running vests, hats, and arm and calf sleeves. Need a post-race athleisure look? With cozy sweaters and pants that double as workout gear, Alo Yoga on level 2 has all you need to celebrate your achievement.
The TCS NYC Marathon Route and the Best Places to Watch
The TCS NYC Marathon route starts in Staten Island and ends on West Drive at West 67th Street inside Central Park; north of Hudson Yards New York. While you can’t see the race in our neighborhood, Hudson Yards is a 40-minute walk or 18-minute transit ride from some superb viewing areas.
- United Airlines Zone (mile 25.5) at Columbus Circle, directions: This is the last push to the finish line. Watching the final .7 miles is pure adrenaline and excitement you won’t be able to find anywhere else.
- Finish Line: Grandstand Seating Entrance, directions. Ticket required: The grandstands offers premium seating to watch racers cross the finish line. This is perfect for people looking to escape the crowds, needing extra space, or wanting an easier viewing experience.
- Finish Line & Standing Spectator Area, directions: This is the closest non-ticketed spot you can get to the finish line. Here, you are in the action, cheering on the athletes.
Looking to venture further to explore the city and see the action? Hudson Yards sits directly over the 34 Street-Hudson Yards Subway Station, where you can easily catch the 7 Train to some iconic spectating locations:
- The Wall of Sound Stretch: Take the 7 train three stops to Grand Central-42 Street, then transfer to an uptown train and get off at 59th Street. Walk one block east to First Avenue, and you’ll be at mile 16 and the iconic Wall of Sound.
- The Halfway Point (Queens side): If you want to see the runners earlier in the race, stay on the 7 train and go to Queens. Exit at Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue and catch racers on mile 13.
