Welcome the Year of the Horse
The horse is a revered symbol of victory, vitality and courage in the Chinese Lunar New Year culture. To celebrate, two 12-foot-tall horse sculptures designed by Paper and Flowers, surrounded by vibrant flowers, hand fans and lanterns will be on display on Level inside The Shops and Restaurants for visitors to view, February 4 - 22.
Cultural Performances at Hudson Yards
In partnership with the New York Chinese Cultural Center, Hudson Yards will be hosting a series of traditional lion dances, Dunhuang dance (silk ribbon), and new this year to the festivities, Shaolin Kung Fu performances in the Great Room on Level 1.
See the Lion and Dunhuang Dance performances on Saturday, February 7 at 1PM, 3PM, and 5PM.
Visit Hudson Yards on Saturday, February 21 for Dunhuang Dance and Shaolin Kung Fu performances at 1PM, 3PM and 5PM.
Lantern-Making Workshops
Lanterns are symbols of hope and good fortune in the Chinese culture and a tradition every Lunar New Year. Visitors to Hudson Yards can get enjoy a free, immersive lantern-making workshop led by the New York Chinese Cultural Center. In this hands-on workshop led by NYCCC's artist Angela Lai, guests will be introduced to the tradition and symbolism of Chinese lanterns, an art form that has been part of Chinese festivals and daily life for centuries. Guided step by step, participants will learn basic construction techniques using simple materials, create their own lantern to take home and share the good fortune with others.
