Russ & Daughters to open new location at Hudson Yards

The beloved NYC culinary institution will open at 50 Hudson Yards in spring 2023.

New York City cultural and culinary icon Russ & Daughters today announced they will open their first location on the West Side, coming to Hudson Yards in spring 2023. The new 4,500-square-foot location at 502 West 34th Street, on the corner of 34th Street and Tenth Avenue, in the base of 50 Hudson Yards, will join the original Russ & Daughters shop and cafe on the Lower East Side and another location in Brooklyn.

“This newest Russ & Daughters will provide an immersive appetizing experience that celebrates our roots in the Lower East Side and the innovative spirit of New York,” said Niki Russ Federman, who is a fourth-generation owner of Russ & Daughters along with cousin Josh Russ Tupper. “We’re still a family business that continues to serve four generations of New Yorkers and visitors.”

Russ & Daughters is celebrated for its excellence in smoked fish, caviar, housemade NY-style bagels, bialys, babka and other traditional Jewish comfort foods. This new location is the uptown lovechild of existing Russ & Daughters establishments, featuring a familiar appetizing counter with fish sliced by hand via their take-a-number system, glass-encased bagel bakery on view, roomy seat-yourself dining area, private event space and delivery throughout the Hudson Yards neighborhood. There will also be a caviar and champagne bar where customers can enjoy a bagel or indulge for happy hour. Congruent with the feel of existing Russ & Daughters establishments, this new location will also include hand-painted lightboxes, neon signs, original artwork and appetizing showcases.

“We could not have envisioned a more perfect addition to NYC’s newest and most sought-after office building than the city’s quintessential purveyor of bagels and lox for more than 100 years,” said Andrew Cantor, executive vice president of Related Companies. “The commitment to quality and service that Niki and Josh bring to every aspect of Russ & Daughters ensures that whether our tenants are grabbing breakfast on their way to the office, or enjoying a celebratory toast with friends and family, they are going to have an exceptional experience.”

In keeping with Russ & Daughters' increased availability to New Yorkers, this location broadens their radius to include a larger area of Manhattan. An emphasis on the quality, dedication and talent will allow Russ & Daughters at 50 Hudson Yards to keep to its traditions while providing a truly iconic New York food experience for a growing city.

Located at 34th Street and Tenth Avenue, Russ & Daughters is at the base of Foster + Partners-designed 50 Hudson Yards. 50 Hudson Yards is the neighborhood’s largest commercial office building by square footage, standing 1,011 feet tall with 2.9 million gross square feet. Opening in fall 2022, the LEED Gold-designed building will be home to industry leading companies including BlackRock and Meta.

Russ & Daughters at 502 West 34th Street will be open seven days a week.

About Russ & Daughters:
The story of Russ & Daughters begins in a herring barrel. In 1907, Joel Russ, a Jewish immigrant from Poland, peddled the cured fish from a pushcart until he saved enough to open an appetizing shop in New York’s Lower East Side in 1914. Today, Russ & Daughters remains a culinary icon, world-famous for the highest-quality appetizing foods: smoked fish, caviar, bagels, bialys, babka, and more Jewish delicacies. Russ & Daughters’ fish slicers are renowned for their excellence in the craft of hand-slicing smoked fish.

The original shop on East Houston Street is enshrined as a New York treasure, and reflects four generations of the Russ family’s careful attention to tradition and stewardship of centuries-old taste memories. It is also the first known American business with “& Daughters” in its name. Today, Russ & Daughters remains a family business, owned by Niki Russ Federman and Josh Russ Tupper, fourth-generation descendants of Joel Russ. The cousins have blended legacy and innovation in opening Russ & Daughters Cafe, the dine-in restaurant on Orchard Street, as well as Russ & Daughters Brooklyn, which houses their kitchens, nationwide shipping hub, retail counter, and bakery that preserves the craft of NY-style baked goods.
