José Andrés’ Thinkfoodgroup Introduces Mercado Little Spain

Unprecedented Spanish Dining & Market Destination to Debut at Hudson Yards in Spring 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 18, 2018 – Chef José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup announced today that its forthcoming Spanish food hall will debut in Spring 2019 as Mercado Little Spain. A joint venture with Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group and creative collaboration with fellow Spanish chefs Ferran and Albert Adrià, the all-day dining and market destination will be located at the base of 10 Hudson Yards, underneath the High Line, an immersive culinary experience that celebrates all things España.

With its name inspired by the immigrant neighborhoods that forged the identity of New York and other US cities, Mercado Little Spain will indeed be its own delicious corner of Spain, in the heart of Manhattan. This will be the first project for Andrés in New York City, though he started his US culinary career there in 1991, and the first endeavor in the US for the Adriàs.

“I’ve dreamed of opening in New York since I first came to this incredible country through New York Harbor,” commented Andrés. “I cannot wait to tell the many stories of Spain with my friends, Ferran and Albert, collaborating on this vision.”

“Jose Andrés and Ferran and Albert Adrià are creating a truly unique culinary experience that can only be experienced at Hudson Yards,” said Kenneth A. Himmel, President and CEO of Related Urban. “When Mercado Little Spain and The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards open next Spring, they will bring to Manhattan’s newest neighborhood one of the most diverse and exciting dining and shopping destinations to ever be developed.”

Mercado Little Spain will be a veritable love letter to Spain – featuring the many foods and drinks from all corners of this culinarily rich country. Whether guests have five minutes or several hours, there will be something for every taste – from a quick bite to eat in or take away to a true “tapas crawl” or a leisurely Spanish dinner.

Unprecedented in its scope and breadth, Mercado Little Spain will span 35,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space – inspired by the historic food halls and markets of Spain yet with a decidedly modern interpretation highlighting the country’s most talented chefs, purveyors, artisans, designers and artists.

The dynamic space will feature three full-service restaurants, offering different facets of Spanish cuisine and styles of dining throughout the day and several bars. There will also be a collection of individual stalls serving a wide selection of tapas and pintxos, from signature Spanish jamon to churros and fried seafoods to Spanish sandwiches, salads and pastries, as well as retail kiosks selling a variety of Spanish products and gift baskets.

Mercado Little Spain will be located at the corner of 10th Avenue and West 30th Street in Hudson Yards, the new neighborhood on Manhattan’s West Side and the largest private development in the United States history. Developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group, it will include more than 100 shops and restaurants, approximately 4,000 residences; 14 acres of public open space; a new 750-seat public school and the first Equinox hotel.
