For the second year in a row, Hudson Yards will host art tours during NYCxDesign’s design festival. From May 12 - 15, Hudson Yards Brand Ambassadors will guide participants through journeys in Architecture, Graphics and Branding, Outdoors, and Interior Design concepts.
To celebrate NYCxDesign’s 10 Years of Design, all tours will highlight 10 design elements within Hudson Yard’s dynamic neighborhood. Conversation topics will include artist objectives and engagement, design strategy, symbols of identity, sustainability, and experiential expression.
Tours will begin at 11 AM, 2 PM, and 5 PM daily. Find additional details below:
May 12: The Architecture Tour
Exploring how the design of a structure or art piece triggers an experience for its audience. Topics include how design choices support the architect’s or artist’s objectives, as well as how their designs can open a path for its audience to engage with issues, each other, or themselves, on a deeper level. Highlights include The Shed and Heatherwick's Vessel.
May 13: HYxOffTheWall Tour
Exploring how graphics, branding, and specifically symbols are viewed through the lens of identity. Topics include exploring how the power of symbols unite people through history, or how organizational branding is representative of projected identity. We will discover how artistic expression of brand identity is guided through mission, culture, language, or response to world events. Highlights include Elle's larger-than-life mural and Indie 184's graphic mural, a 100 foot mural highlighting incredible women throughout history entitled ROAR! A Collection of Mighty Women by Ashley Longshore and a skyscrape of the NYC skyline from Marsh Made Art.
May 14: The Outdoors Tour
Exploring how Hudson Yards integrates outdoor space and highlights the importance of open spaces. Topics may include what the outdoors mean to people, sustainable architecture, developments for the modern day life, what it means to be a green city space and more. Highlights include Sam Durant's Untitled (drone) and the plaza of Hudson Yards.
May 15: The Interior Design Tour
Exploring how design is an expression of identity. In both the exterior and interior of Hudson Yards, the collaboration of architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro and the Rockwell Group, combined with various highlighted artists, have created a symphony of visual expression that is meant to elicit an emotion for each visitor. Highlights include Juame Plensa's Voices and Jonathan Borofsky's Human Structures as well as the terrace at Electric Lemon.
